OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha man has been given seven years in prison for robbing an Omaha bank and violating his federal probation.

Thirty-year-old Michael Hymes was convicted of robbing a First National Bank branch in south Omaha last August.

He was arrested after a woman was seen trying to exchange dye-stained money at a bank branch in nearby Council Bluffs, Iowa. Authorities say their investigation led them back to Hymes.

The dye came from an exploding packet the Omaha teller had placed with the loot given to the robber.

Hymes also admitted to robbing a Bank of the West branch in July.

The judge ordered Hymes to pay restitution of nearly $3,500 to Bank of the West and more than $6,400 to First National Bank.

He was on probation for a 2004 robbery.
