"VICTORY": Corps of Engineers Says Concerns Over Birdland Levee Failing are Over
It's news the residents of the Birdland neighborhood have been waiting for. "I think we can declarevistory over this possible flood fight," says Tom Heinhold of the Army Corps of Engineers, "We need to watch the weather and never let our guard down...(but) that risk that is clearly the greatest is behind us now."

Travis Hawkins of Des Moines couldn't be happier. He recently moved into the Birdland neighborhood, and had to move all of his things to higher ground. "The whole renting a U-Haul, moving everything out of the house," Hawkins says, his voice trailing off, "It was exhausting. It was hot and it was ...I had to get people to come down here in a hurry and like quick like that. Like we gotta get this stuff out of here."
