A judge has eliminated the "cash only" stipulation of the $100,000 bond for a former Ames High football star. Police say 18-year-old Spencer Cruise was jailed after attacking a police officer who responded to a party at Cruise's house.
Ames Police say Cruise slammed Officer Steve Spoon against a wall. They say he choked Spoon and body-slammed him then zapped Spoon with the officer's own taser gun.
Officer Spoon pointed his other gun at Cruise. That's when police say Cruise ran out of the house and was arrested by another officer.
"Officer Spoon is very sore today. Lots of cuts and scrapes and bruises," says Mike Brennan with the Ames Police Department, "Mr. Cruise is very lucky that the officer did not shoot him."
Other teens at the party were charged with marijuana possession and failure to disperse.
Cruise is being held in the Story County Jail. His bond was initially a cash only bond, but a judge will now allow 10% of the bond to be posted.
