Glenn Smith (WHO)
A homeless man charged in the stabbing death of another homeless man in Ames last year has been found guilty of second-degree murder. A jury returned its verdict against Glenn Smith on Wednesday in Story County District Court.
Smith had been charged with first-degree murder for the May 19, 2008, death of Daniel McGonigle. Police said it appeared that Smith and McGonigle argued at the homeless camp before the stabbing.
McGonigle was found in a wooded area, suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a Des Moines hospital, where he later died.
Smith faces a sentence of up to 50 years in prison.
