Fire destroyes abandoned Ankeny farmhouse
An early morning fire destroyed an abandoned farmhouse in rural Ankeny. Firefighters were called to the home at Northwest 36th Street and State just before 6:00 a.m. The home was fully engulfed when officials arrived.
They made the decision to let the fire burn itself out. "This is a known abandoned house. We arrived on scene we had fire on the first floor and second floor. Our policy is we'll risk a lot to save a lot but in this case there wasn't a whole lot to save," says one Ankeny firefighter.
Fire investigators aren't ruling out arson, but the investigation continues.
