AUDITOR PLANS: Employees have to take six unpaid days off work to help ease the budget strain
State Auditor Dave Vaudt has notified his nearly 100 employees he will join them in taking six unpaid days off between January and the end of June. Vaudt said it will help his office save about $91,000 and avoid layoffs. Vaudt also took the pay cut he said, "I took it as we're a team."

Vaudt said of his employees' reaction to this week's news, "No one's ever happy that they're going to have to take time off without pay. But I think everybody appreciates the process we go through."

Vaudt's office already went without raises and promotions this year to save money to comply with Governor Chet Culver's 10% across-the-board cuts.
