BARNES HONORED: Iowa high school basketball star Harrison Barnes has been named McDonald's All American Player of the Year
Ames High School's Harrison Barnes has picked up another accolade. The senior basketball star has been named the McDonald's All American Player of the Year.

Chair of the selection committee, legendary high school coach Morgan Wootten, chose Barnes ahead of five other high school basketball standouts from across the nation. The award, named in honor of Wootten, is based on basketball achievements as well as community involvement.

Barnes is currently focused on leading the Ames High Little Cyclones to a second straight Iowa boys state basketball tournament championship.

In a press release announcing the award, Barnes said, "I am humbled and honored to be the recipient of the prestigious Morgan Wootten Award as the 2010 McDonald's National High School Player of the Year. I feel blessed that my name will be linked with everything this award embodies."

Previous winners of the award include Kevin Love, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Jason Williams and Shane Battier.

Barnes plans to attend college and play basketball at North Carolina.
