BOBCAT TRAPPING: Fur harvesters in Iowa are closing in on the 200 bobcat quota
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reports fur harvesters are nearing their quota in the bobcat hunt.

According to the Natural Resources Department, 132 bobcats have been harvested as of early Friday. Hunters have also taken 289 otters.

The department has a quota of 200 bobcats and 500 otters for the season.

Officials say once the quota is reached, a 48 hour grace period is given trappers only, to allow them time to remove their traps from areas likely frequented by bobcats and otters. Hunters are not allowed a grace period.

Once the grace period ends, all bobcats and otters must be turned over to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
