Scammers are now trying a new way to get your personal information. Sunday, the West Des Moines Police Department fielded a number of reports of a fraudulent text-message going to U.S. Cellular, Sprint and T-Mobile customers.
The fake message claims to be from Metabank and warns of unusual account activity. Cell phone customers are then asked to call a phone number and give out their credit card number and other account information.
U.S. Cellular instead wants customers to call 6-1-1 and report the text message to the company's fraud department.
