Colo House A "Total Loss" After Fire
A Story County couple is homeless after a fire destroyed their home Monday night. Fire investigators say a wood burning stove is to blame.

The fire started around 8:00 p.m. at a two story house in Colo. The two adults who live there made it out safely.

Fire investigators say an exhaust pipe on the wood burner cracked causing the attic and second floor to go up in flames.

"Pretty much smoke coming out all of the upstairs windows and flames coming out of the east side, which is where the pipe went through the first floor ceiling," says Colo fire chief Mark Farren.

Firefighters say the home is a total loss.

The Red Cross is providing help to the couple with temporary housing and supplies.
