Gov. Chet Culver announces Microsoft deal (WHO)

Microsoft is partnering in a new project with the state of Iowa to help unemployed Iowans better train themselves with computer knowledge. The program is called "Microsoft Elevating America."

It will teach software and programming skills online. Elisabeth Buck, the Director of the Iowa Workforce Development, said the training comes at a time Iowans without jobs should take not of their future. Buck said, "Any Iowan who is unemployed should really pause at this time in their life when they're going through this transition and consider the upskilling."

Buck said Microsoft is setting aside 5,700 vouchers for the program that it has already begun in three other states. She said it may cost Iowans around $80.
