Dr. Steffany Mohan with Plaza Dental Group in West Des Moines is one of several dentists who will buy back your candy.
She'll give you a dollar for each pound of sweet treats. Then, she'll send it to the troops serving overseas.
Dr. Mohan says some treats are better than others. She says soft chocolate is the best for teeth.
Sticky candy like taffy and Tootsie Rolls are the worst. Dr. Mohan says, "Those are the worse kinds because they're really going to be stuck in the teeth and are going to cause more problems because they're going to be in there longer and it's harder to even brush out."
Dr. Mohan's buy-back program runs November 2nd and 3rd from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at their office on Jordan Creek Parkway.
If you want to give trick or treaters something besides candy, she recommends Playdough or sugar free gum.
