Governor Culver signs House File 484 into law

Governor Culver signs House File 484 into law (WHO)

Governor Culver signed a bill into law Friday regulating requirement for boarding homes and dependent adults. A task force helped lawmakers develop the bill in response to dozens of men found living in substandard conditions in Atalissa.

The men worked for Henry's Turkey Service. Investigators found moldy beds, locked refrigerators and no central heat at the home.

The bill will help shine a light on unknown, long-term care facilities. It also creates rules to keep track of complaints and better ways for state agencies to investigate abuse.

The bill goes into effect July 1st.
