Injured Infant

Ethan Neiderbach (WHO)

An infant recovering from serious head injuries is doing a little better, according to his grandfather. The parents of seven-week-old Ethan Neiderbach are expected to go back to court next week, accused of causing the child's injuries.

Jonas Neiderbach and Jherica Richardson, both 20-years-old, are accused of injuring their son Ethan. Both are being held at the Polk County Jail on a bond of $50,000 each.

Wednesday, prosecutors formally charged Richardson with one count of felony child endangerment causing serious bodily injury. Neiderbach faces a felony count of multiple acts of child endangerment causing serious injury.

The charges stem from injuries to seven-week-old Ethan. The Department of Human Services got involved when Ethan tested positive for a controlled substance at birth. The DHS was again called in when Ethan was admitted to the hospital with a broken arm when he was just 23 days old on June 18th.

Less than two weeks later Ethan was rushed to the hospital with a broken rib and severe head injuries.

Ethan remains in critical but stable condition. His grandfather, Jon Neiderbach, says his vital signs are stable and they are seeing slight improvement.

Jonas Neiderbach and Jherica Richardson will return to court on July 24th.
