Central Iowa has lost a beloved DJ. Dic Youngs passed away early Thursday morning at Mercy Medical Center after a long battle with an undisclosed illness.
For 45-years, his baritone voice belted across the radio waves. Youngs is best known as host of KIOA's saturday night oldies show where he served as the host from 1966 to 2007.
More recently, Youngs hosted an oldies show from Prairie Meadows Casino. In 1997, Youngs was inducted into the Iowa Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.
Youngs was a graduate of Des Moines East High School. In August of 2008, a street near East High School was renamed Dic Youngs Way.
Youngs filed a lawsuit against his former employer in 2007, claiming Saga Communications forced him out because of his age. That lawsuit is still pending.
Funeral arrangements for Youngs are still being finalized.
Youngs was 68-years-old.
