Thick ice coated the state on Wednesday, snapping power lines and trees.
On Friday, MidAmerican Energy reported more than 15,000 customers were still without power, with most in the Sioux City and Des Moines areas.
Rural electric cooperatives also are dealing with outages, especially in western Iowa. In Carroll County, officials say it could be days before power is restore. Large parts of the town of Carroll and most of the county are without power.
Eugene Meiners, chairman of the county board of supervisors, says it looks like the county was ravaged by a tornado.
