Polk County Sheriff's officials are saying alcohol is a suspected factor in a crash near Elkhart Wednesday morning. A passerby noticed the crash around 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of Northwest 38th Street and Northeast 126th Avenue.
The jaws of life were used to free three men from two vehicles. Air and ground crews took all three involved to the hospital.
The driver of a white Buick Century, 26-year-old Eric Thompson of Huxley is in serious condition. His passenger, 20-year-old Thomas Hayes Junior of Ames and the driver of the other car, 32-year-old Jesse Haecker of Elkhart are in stable condition.
Charges are pending and the crash is still being investigated.
