Four years ago at this time, Floyd County was torn apart looking for 5 year-old Evelyn Miller. The girl disappeared from her home there July 1st. Five days later, her body was found two miles from her home in the Cedar River. Her death was ruled a homicide, and four years later no arrests have been made in the case.
Still the Floyd County Sheriff says this is far from a cold case for his office. "It really doesn't feel like 4 years because it's the number one priority in the Floyd County Sheriff's office...that we're going to find the murder or murderers of Evelyn Miller," said Sheriff Rick Lynch. Not only are his deputies continuing to receive new tips, he says they also have access to a new tool that could provide additional clues in the case.
Lynch says he can't discuss just what this tool does, but he says it's the first of its kind in the state. Meantime he says his deputies are also getting more substantial tips from across the state. He says they received several tip calls over the last month after Casey Frederickson--the boyfriend of Evelyn's mother--was indicted on federal drug charges. Lynch says they continue to welcome any useful information.
"Maybe if somebody has some info that was always scared or didn't want to let us know or think it was pertinent, now all of a sudden they're like well maybe I should. That's what we're hoping for," he said. Evelyn's grandparents, Linda and Richard Christie of Windsor Heights, keep a blog with updates on the case.
