Fire in Boone County (WHO-TV / February 9, 2009)
Another fire in Boone County claims another life. This time an elderly woman died inside a burning garage.
The fire was reported Sunday night at a farm site southeast of Ogden on County Road R-18, just south of Seven Oaks Ski Hills. Firefighters arrived to find a detached garage fully engulfed. Inside a vehicle in the garage was 80-year-old Joan Haub. Firefighters had no chance to try a rescue. The fire was so intense that the heat ignited siding on a house thirty feet away.
"When we got there, we found the garage totally engulfed. We talked to eyewitnesses who stopped and attempted to go into the building and were driven back because of flames," said Ogden fire chief Dan Wilson.
Firefighters were able to save the house. Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
