Polk County's Board of Supervisors has unanimously rejected a proposal by the owners of the Iowa Chops to sell the team. The group had been asking for permission to sell the team to pay off debts and then pay back Polk County.
Board member Tom Hockensmith says, "Well, if you take a look at the agreement we have the non-relocation agreement calls for penalty of $12.5 million if you move the team, and they're offering us in essence, $700,000 or less. It just doesn't add up."
The board filed a lawsuit Friday morning to prevent the Iowa Chops franchise from relocating. A hearing in the case has been set for next Wednesday.
