Last week the Iowa Supreme Court ruled on same sex marriage, but the debate is far from over as a new television ad is calling on central Iowans to fight the ruling. The commercial, called "Gathering Storm," hit the airwaves this week in Iowa. It is part of a campaign by the National Organization for Marriage.

The National Organization for Marriage says the ads are entirely funded through donations. The consequences of gay marriage are the storm the commercials to which the commercials refer.

The organization claims the stories in their ads are real, but the fine print shows the people telling them, are not. The actors' auditions have been linked onto YouTube.

"Any of the instances brought up in the ad are real. They are really happening and that's because when you redefine marriage, you redefine it for everyone," said Brian Brown, executive director of the organization.

The non-profit says they are out to stop the redefinition. Each ad costs about $1,000 and Brown says they will keep running as long as the donations keep coming in.

"We will extend it depending on funding and then we'll be looking at launching another ad," he says.

But just how much can an ad like this accomplish? Channel 13 asked Iowans to watch and weigh in. According to Anthony Marinaro, the sixty seconds could pass for prime-time comedy.

"Saturday Night Live would put that out, you know what I mean?" Marinaro said.

Others disagree.

Steve Roesner says, "Honestly, I think it's tastefully done."

Roesner says he doesn't expect any big results from the campaign.

"I'd like to think it may have an effect but I doubt it will," he said.

Marinaro says he's optimistic.

"For every person that is swayed against marriage equality, I think there's quite a few swayed toward it because it is reminiscent of a Saturday Night Live skit because it's so ridiculous," Marinaro said.

The ads are scheduled to run on WHO-TV through Sunday.
