GIFT MART: Get a jump on holiday shopping while giving back to the community
You can get a jump on your holiday shopping this weekend, while giving back to the community. The 20th Gift Mart is happening through Saturday at the Polk County Convention Center downtown.

Junior League of Des Moines puts on the shopping event to raise money for their community projects. Volunteer Sarah Bailey says, "If you've never been, please come check it out. We're really excited about the vendors. We think we have a really great mix."

Bailey says they have a great mix of items from seventy vendors for people of all ages. You'll find toys, clothing, chocolate and more. Bailey says Gift Mart has raised $500,000 for the community since 1989. Their goal is to raise $35,000 to $40,000 dollars this year.

Volunteer Angie Lookingbill says, "Right now, we're working on creating communities with healthy and active lifestyles, so one of our main projects we're working on this year is to develop a wellness center and fitness center room at the Orchard Place."

You can check out the Gift Mart today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Polk County Convention Center, or go Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $5.
