H1N1 VACCINE: The Polk County Health Department has scheduled its next H1N1 vaccine clinics and is restricting who can get the vaccine
The Polk County Health Department has announced plans for its next H1N1 vaccine clinics. The clinics will be limited to high risk individuals, using the guidelines of the CDC.

The clinics are being held Wednesday and Thursday at the Varied Industries building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. each day and will remain open until 8:00 p.m. or until all of the vaccine has been dispensed.

The Polk County Health Department says while the supply of the vaccine remains low, it will limit who can get it. The following people are eligible to get the vaccine:
  • pregnant women
  • people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
  • health care and emergency medical services personnel with direct patient contact diagnosing and treating patients with flu-like illness or direct contact with patients at high risk for influenza
  • children 6 months through 4 years of age
  • children 5 through 18 years of age who have chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, lung or heart disease, chronic liver or kidney disease, or are immune-compromised because of cancer treatment or HIV
  • children 6 months to age 10 who have already received their initial H1N1 vaccination (at least 28 days ago)
The Polk County Health Department says it will provide indoor waiting for pregnant women and those with mobility issues.

Dallas County's Public Health Nursing Services is also holding an H1N1 vaccine clinic on Thursday in Adel. It's at 902 Court Street from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. or until all the doses are gone.

Six-hundred vaccine doses are available but will only be given to pregnant women, people who live with or provide care for infants under six months of age and people six-months-old to 24-years-old.
