For the last six years, Ronda Lyon says she has relived the day her husband was killed by Rodney Heemstra. To date, Lyon has yet to receive any land or money from him or the Heemstra family to satisfy the court's judgment.
"That day and all of that is very embedded...that's all I ever think about. Every day, I think about what has happened, how it happened, what's going to happen next. Why can't this just be settled? Why can't this be over with and done," testified Ronda Lyon
Back on the stand for a second day, Rodney Heemstra told the court 2003 wasn't a good year for him either. Up until then he was a successful farmer, but he had to give it up after killing Lyon because he lost his financing and had to sell the equipment.
"My suppliers pretty much told me they didn't want to do business with me. Frankly, psychologically, I just couldn't. I wouldn't have been able to do it even if all those other factors hadn't been present," Heemstra testified.
After eight days of trial, we know where the money went. So it's back to the question of how much Rodney Heemstra was worth when he killed Lyon. The plaintiffs say it's more than $4 million. An exact dollar amount was never released from the defense, but it was estimated around $1.8 million.
The defense could rest its case Thursday.
