Metro leaders hope a new campaign called "I Believe in Greater Des Moines" will encourage Iowans to stay here. They worry bad economic times will make frustrated job seekers seek a medium-sized metro like Des Moines for bigger cities like Minneapolis and Chicago, where the talented but unemployed think they may have a better chance at finding work. Liz Nead, a native of Minneapolis, is the type of person metro leaders want to keep in the metro. She got laid off from her job last fall and has launched her own inspirational consulting business, Nead Inspiration. Nead said other people may wrongly think she should have left for a bigger city. She said, ""That's a misconception in my mind. Being from Minneapolis, this is a place where you can make a name for yourself. It's not so small there are only three businesses running the town. But it's not so big that you're just a name and a number."
The Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Greater Des Moines Convention & Visitors Bureau are two of the primary partners in the effort. For more information, www.ibelievedm.com
