Opening day for the Iowa Cubs at Principal Park (WHO) |
Former Iowa Cubs pitcher Nate Teut showed us around the clubhouse. He says, "An important part, right here, of the team. It's kind of the sacred area. This is where the team gels."
Teut says the locker room is where players hang out before the game. He says, "Guys usually sit around and relax before the game, read newspapers and play some cards."
He says the training room is stocked with everything a player might need from medicated creams to finger nail clippers. He says, "This is actually a pretty nice size training room. 4 tables, everything the players need on hand."
Teut played pro-ball for eight seasons, including a stint with the Florida Marlins. Now, he works in the I-Cubs front office. He says this is going to be a big season for the team. "We're going to have an exciting team this year, last year we had a great team. We made the playoffs."
He says this will also be an exciting year for the fans. "We're incorporating kind of a dollar days that we're going to have 7 games this year. It will be a discounted ticket, a dollar for general admission ticket, and then we'll have discount on some concession items as well." The first Dollar Day at the Ballpark is April 23.
Teut says they're hoping to draw new people to the park, so they can experience everything it has to offer. He says, "When they start popping the leather, and you hear the sound of the wood bat, there's nothing better in a ballpark than those sounds there."
Teut says they'll also have special giveaways. The first 2,000 fans will get ear warmers on Saturday. On Sunday, they're giving out Jeff Samardzija jerseys.
