Rep. Steve King (WHO)
U.S. Rep. Steve King of Iowa confirms a clerical mistake allowed him to improperly receive a tax credit for his Washington, D.C., condominium.
A district official Thursday acknowledged the mistake, saying it allowed King to receive a tax credit intended for people whose property serves as their permanent residence. It isn't available to those who claim a residence in another state.
King's permanent residence is in Kiron in western Iowa. He also owns the condo in Washington D.C. valued at $338,000.
Officials say the credit has been removed and that King will be notified how much he owes within a week. King spokesman Matt Lahr says the congressman would pay the back taxes.
Officials say King never sought the credit.
