An Iowa man is one of five people charged in a 20-year-old investigation into sexual assaults on children. The investigation centers on a home in Bates City, Missouri which is just east of Kansas City.
That's where police arrested 52-year-old David Mohler of Lamoni and four other members of the Mohler family. All five face charges of sodomy, rape, and the use of a child in a sexual performance.
Investigators say the crimes took place between 1988 and 1995. A daughter of one of the men charged contacted police back in August.
Police are now searching the home for evidence of what took place 20 years ago.
Investigators say they're looking into the possibility that the children documented their abuse at the time by writing it down and burying it in jars on the property."
Police say they are also searching for bodies believed to be buried on the property.
So far police say they've located five living victims -- all of them under the age of 12 at the time of the abuse.
