UFC Fighter Josh Neer admits he was drunk when he led authorities on a high speed chase through the metro in January. He pleaded guilty to OWI and eluding charges and avoided prison time. We are getting our first look at what happened that night nine months ago. Thursday, the Iowa Department of Public Safety released the car camera video.
State troopers say the chase reached speeds of 125-miles per hour. Neer stopped only after one of the tires on his car blew out. The dash cam video shows him get out of the car, put his hands up, then get forced to the ground. "It caused me concern when I saw the video," says Neer's attorney Robert Rehkemper. "When an individual surrenders and has their hands up, I don't understand why or how they took the action they took."
Troopers say Neer was resisting arrest. In his report, one trooper says he "used two close fist strikes to [Neer's] solar plexus and two strikes to his kidneys to gain control and restrain him." Another says he used his hand on Neer's "throat trying to control his head so officers weren't head butted or bitten."
Neer's attorneys filed a lawsuit to get the video. They may also file a suit claiming the troopers used excessive force.
