Jesse Fierstine (WHO)
A northeast Iowa man accused of cutting his father's pacemaker from his chest has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and willful injury causing serious injury.
Delaware County Attorney John Bernau says Jesse Fierstine, of Manchester, entered a written plea on Friday. Fierstine is accused of attacking his father, Charles Fierstine, and cutting out the pacemaker on April 25.
Fierstine's arraignment had been set for Monday. Bernau says a judge will still take up the case on Monday, and set a trial date.
Family members have said Fierstine suffers from bipolar disorder and was not on his medication at the time of the attack.
Fierstine remains in the Delaware County jail on $750,000 bond.
