Boone County Sheriff Ronald Fehr has confirmed one person is dead after a small plane crashed north of the Farm Progress Show near Boone Thursday morning.

Witness Bob Johnson saw the plane flying over his field on its way to the Farm Progress Show and towing an Agrigold banner. Johnson says, "I thought buddy, you better get up in the air. No more thought that and it got caught in the corn... plane straight down, straight into the ground."

Johnson called 911 and plowed a path through the corn so law enforcement could get to the wreckage.

Only the pilot, who is from out of state, was aboard when the plane crashed. The manager of the Boone Municipal Airport, Connie Younger, says the plane was from Toledo, Ohio.

Officials have not released the name of the person killed.
