EMERGENCY SHELTERS: Shelters have opened up in Carroll County to house those still without power
Carroll County is one of the hardest hit areas from Wednesday's ice storm. Fifty-three hundred homes are without power and crews say it looks like it could take a couple of days to get the lights back on.

Emergency workers set up shelters for those with nowhere to go. A few dozen people spent the night at Red Cross shelters in Carroll, Breda and Liderdale. If the situation doesn't improve another shelter could open Thursday in Arcadia.

Mindy Stout and her two boys are staying at the shelter after she called around and all the hotels were full.

"I had a lantern and I just kept calling all the hotels and finally the Super 8 told me to come here, they're taking everybody. So we just packed a bag, grabbed their sleeping bags and pillows, hopped in the car and left," said Stout.

It could take crews up to 72 hours to get all the houses back on line.
