An Iowa State University creation is destined for the nation's capitol. ISU is one of 20 universities, chosen by the Department of Energy to compete in the fourth Solar Decathlon.
A group of students will build an energy efficient, solar-powered home. The home will take shape on a lot near campus. Everything from the floors to the insulation is energy efficient.
About 75 students from 11 different majors are part of the team. "I think there's this stigma with solar homes that they are these crazy aluminum, alien like things, but really they are not...they can fit into existing neighborhoods and it's not the affordability issue either."
Once the home is finished, it will be carefully disassembled and taken to Washington, D.C. to be put back together and displayed in a solar village on the National Mall in October.
