Ideas For Last Minute Spring Travel
Even if money is tight, you can still make last minute plans for spring break. Take a look at some local deals and ideas.

The General Manager at Adventureland Inn in Altoona says the hotel is mostly booked the coming weekends, but he says they do have rooms available during the week. Rooms run $129 to $149 a night. GM Matthew Krantz says a big draw is their pool with a water features, including a swim up bar. Krantz says they'll have a lot of people here from Altoona, West Des Moines and Omaha looking for a little getaway. Krantz says, "We definitely see a lot of people looking to stay closer to home this time of year, especially with the economy the way it is. Gas prices last summer brought a lot of people from local."

Meanwhile, the Honey Creek Resort State Park on Rathbun Lake is having " Spring Break at the Lake." Rooms start as low as $89 a night. The stay includes passes to their water park and nature activities with the Department of Natural Resources.

You also might be able to grab a last minute deal, if want to head out of state for spring break. Travel Agent Jeri Hammen with Advantage Travel has some advice for this spring and summer. She says to be flexible on your travel dates to get the best rates. Also, work with a travel agent because they can get you deals before they come out. Finally, when you get to your destination, ask if there is a lower rate than you booked. Most places have a policy to give you the best rate.
