Two homes valued at more than $550,000 and thousands of dollars in donations to political candidates and gay marriage advocacy groups, all on a $40,000 a year salary.

Fifty-eight-year-old Phyllis Stevens is headed back to Iowa to face federal fraud charges and a civil trial. She was arrested in Las Vegas Friday, and is accused of bilking health insurer Aviva out of nearly $6 million.

Now, what do those who accepted Stevens' donations plan to do with the money?

Disbelief fills the $380,000 Sherman Hill home Phyllis Stevens owns. The tenants wouldn't talk to us, but Stevens' thousands of dollars in political contributions speak for them selves.

Locally, Stevens and her wife Marla donated $1,250 to the Democratic Party of Iowa, $500 to Becky Greenwald, $4,200 to Rep. Leonard Boswell, $2,300 to Ed Fallon, and an undetermined amount to the same-sex marriage advocacy group One Iowa.

In all, according to the Federal Election Commission, Stevens has given more than $82,000 to political and same sex marriage advocacy groups.

Of all the local politicians we contacted, only two responded. Rep. Boswell's office says: "They have every intention to give the money back to whom ever they are told to."

One Iowa wouldn't go that far. Their only comment was that, "We expect the appropriate authorities will complete a thorough investigation, and they will monitor developments."

We tried to track down Phyllis' wife, Marla, to hear what she had to say. We went to their West Des Moines apartment, but no one picked up our call.

In fact, no one we contacted would go on camera to talk about Phyllis Stevens.
