UNION NEGOTIATIONS: A preliminary agreement between the state and the State Police Officers Council will save 43 union jobs
The state says it has reached a tentative agreement with the last of its unions to cut benefits and save some jobs. The agreement is with the State Police Officers Council.

It will save 43 union jobs including State Troopers and gambling enforcement officers. Under the agreement the union's 640-members will take five unpaid days off and the state will suspend contributions to retirement funds.

Union members will vote on the proposal next week.

Meanwhile AFSCME workers will vote on a similar agreement Friday in order to save 479 jobs.

The Iowa United Professionals union did not agree to negotiations and that means 55 state employees will lose their jobs.
