The West Des Moines city council is spending thousands of dollars to address a long-standing noise problem. For the past three years residents near the Val Air Ballroom have complained about music -- especially the bass -- coming from the ballroom.

Monday night, a committee approved a plan to hire a sound consultant. It will cost the city $10,000. KJWW will work with city attorneys to determine if the ballroom complies with the city's existing noise ordinance.

The consultant will also help update the city's noise ordinance.
