The case involving a Madison County man charged in a deadly hit and run will be dismissed.
This morning rescue crew found the man dead at his home after an apparent suicide.
Around 9:45am police and rescue crews responded to the Winterset home of 80 year old Paul McKinney.
They found McKinney dead in a car inside his garage from carbon monoxide poisoning.
McKinney is charged in the death of Mark Grgurich.
On August 30th police say McKinney hit and killed Grgurich on Cumming road while Grgurich was on his bicycle.
McKinney then fled the scene - but investigators followed a string of clues which eventually led them to the retired county worker weeks later.
Grgurich was a jeweler at Elements Ltd. in Des Moines.
Co-workers say they were looking forward to closure in the case, now that may never happen.
"We were hoping someone would be held accountable and he would take responsibility," says Sheena Thomas who worked with Grgurich since 2000, "But this was definitely not the outcome we would have wanted."
Warren County prosecutor Brent Hinders says there are no others suspects in connection with the deadly hit and run.
Charges will be drooped and case, closed.
