January 11, 2009-- U.S. Attorney Matthew Whitaker says he doesn't think he'll keep his job with the new presidential administration, but says he and his office acted correctly during the 2006 immigration raids at the Swift & Co. meatpacking plant.

Whitaker acknowledges that some mistakes were made during the much-criticized raids, but says they solved a serious problem -- specifically, cracking down on identity theft.

Whitaker says the raid was an overall benefit to Marshalltown, saying the average starting wage in the city went up by $2 after the raid.

Whitaker says he expects to be replaced within four to six months.
